I have just closed the book on the last page of Meet Me in Scotland by Patience Griffin, the 2nd in the Kilts & Quilts series that takes place in the village of Gandiegow and my heart is full. As I suspected some of the characters have moved on to take up residence from the first book in the series to a front and center while others have taken more of a secondary role to introduce another set of new inhabitants of this magical place with its harsh weather and challenges of real life and how both good and bad things are worked through. I found the life long friendship of Claire and Emma have been drawn back together for one reason, but of course well intended interventions and manipulations have unforeseen consequences and like a skein of wool become entangled and untangled and entangled through it all in many many ways. I think anyone who found escape in To Scotland with Love will not be disappointed with this book, and there is yet another addition to this easy and riveting read, due for publication in the Summer of 2015.Tags : Meet Me in Scotland (Kilts and Quilts) [Patience Griffin] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. <b>You can run from your problems, but you can’t hide from love in the Scottish seaside town of Gandiegow....</b> When a video of her calling happily ever after</i> “a foolish fantasy” goes viral,Patience Griffin,Meet Me in Scotland (Kilts and Quilts),Berkley,0451468309,Romance - Contemporary,Family therapists;Fiction.,Love stories,Love stories.,Man-woman relationships,Marriage,Physicians,Physicians;Fiction.,Scotland,AMERICAN LIGHT ROMANTIC FICTION,Adult & contemporary romance,Contemporary romance;fiction;kilts and quilts series;mystery;Scotland;Scottish culture;humor;humorous;emma;family drama;small town;escapism;running away;tall dark and handsome;romance;quilters;seduction;charming;charmed;smitten;contemporary romance;family;romance books;romance novels;women's fiction;gifts for women;novels;gifts for her;fiction books;women;books fiction;realistic fiction books;romance novel;romance book;romantic novels;contemporary romance books;women gifts;chick lit;love,FICTION Family Life General,FICTION Romance Contemporary,FICTION Women,Fiction,Fiction - Romance,Fiction-Romance,General Adult,Great BritainBritish Isles,MASS MARKET,Monograph Series, any,RomanceModern,Romance: Modern,United States,Contemporary romance; fiction; kilts and quilts series; mystery; Scotland; Scottish culture; humor; humorous; emma; schizophrenic; family drama; small town; escapism; running away; tall dark and handsome; romance; quilters; seduction; charming; charmed; smitten; family; family life; gifts for women; romance novels; gifts for her; romance books; fiction books; women; women gifts; women's fiction; love story; chick lit; dogs; womens fiction; contemporary women's fiction; contemporary fiction; friendship; knitting,FICTION Family Life General,FICTION Romance Contemporary,FICTION Women,Fiction - Romance,American Light Romantic Fiction,Fiction,Romance: Modern,Adult & contemporary romance
Meet Me in Scotland Kilts and Quilts Patience Griffin 9780451468307 Books Reviews
A small glimpse of life in a Scottish seaside town, albeit not a real one. It seems very real through the eyes of Patience Griffin. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. Just right for bedtime and getting cozy.
A romantic story by Patience Griffin set in Gandiegow, Scotland. After a disasterous television appearance as a marriage counsellor, Emma Castle flees to her friend Claire and husband Dominic in the small village..
Emma gets caught up in the lives of Claire and Dominic as well as meeting up with a former friend and now village doctor - the handsome Gabriel MacGregor. A cast of local ladies and the fishermen of the area provide the threads that pull this story together. Beautifully written.
Sometimes I think the fact that the main characters are bumping into each other hourly is dumb, and some of the ridiculously childish antics of other characters are far fetched. It doesn't feel like Scotland at all. But it's a fun quick read which takes me away, and I like knowing that the characters from the first book are still alive and well.
I love Scotland, and I am a quilter, and I was excited to get the books after I saw them advertised. However, I was somewhat disappointed. I liked the first one, To Scotland with Love better than the second Meet Me in Scotland. I thought Meet Me in Scotland was very unrealistic. Quilting is not a fast craft, and to a non-quilter one would think that a quilt can be finished in a very short time, and that is not the case, even with a group of quilters working together. Also making scones is not easy either, and making the scones and preparing the other foods at the restaurant were just too fast and easy.
I’ve not been a huge fan of contemporary romances before, but reading this one by Ms. Griffin has definitely made me change my mind about contemporaries. And because the setting was in Scotland…well, let’s just say I was curious and bought the book, and then I loved the story! Ms. Griffin has a no-nonsense, plain-spoken writing style that made this story so easy to read and understand and enjoy. Gabriel and Emma are an “opposites attract” couple in this romance, and it was fun to see how they ran circles around each other and with the close-knit village folk – to finally reach their happy ending. It is definitely a sigh-worthy story and now I want to read more by Ms. Griffin.
My favorite poem begins "I will arise now, and go to Innisfree..." It's a place I go when I want to escape the hurly burly of modern life. Gandiegow has become another place I can retreat to. In Patience Griffin's Scottish novels about the fishing village Gandiegow, it's easy to imagine that life is a little slower. Not dull, that's for sure. But not frantic either. Plus there is a lovely two for one romance going on, and that always makes me happy. I enjoyed my afternoon with the lovers fated to be together, and I recommend this book to anybody who imagines life could be quite lovely in a quaint little town.
What a lovely story!
It's a two-fer! Two interesting relationships for the price of one - and I've fallen in love with Gandigow. Nay, I really mean it, I LOVE Gandigow. This quaint Scottish fishing village has won my heart. I wish it was a real place so I could go visit. But as it is, I will simply have to depend upon Ms. Griffin's books to sail me there from time to time.
I've already ordered her next one. Some Like It Scottish A Kilts and Quilts Novel. Sigh.
In this story, all four protagonist intertwine masterfully. I love the contrast between characters. The main heroine is a bit shy and reserved while her best friend is a temperamental spitfire. VERY fun dynamics. Well worth reading.
